SESSION: My Whiteboard is My Canvas, and I’ve Created You a Masterpiece!

You know what excites me more than anything…?

New whiteboard marker pens!

Seriously. I know people talk about “new bike day” or “new shoe day” or “new goggles day”, but for me, it's all about my whiteboard marker pens.

That's the way to this Coach's heart ❤️ 😆.

If you're a coach yourself (or just a whiteboard addict!), I know you know what I mean!

My Whiteboard in My Canvas:

My whiteboard is my canvas, a vast expanse of blank space where my thoughts, ideas, and creativity flow freely. It's a pristine surface that beckons me to unleash my coaching imagination, to sketch out the many and numerous sessions that swirl within my mind. With each stroke of the marker, I bring my visions to life, whether it's crafting a new CSS main set, brainstorming a better way of moving between the parts of a Red Mist Endurance session, or simply creating a new drill sequence to refine someone's efficiency. Its erasable nature grants me the freedom to experiment without fear of permanence, encouraging me to refine, expand, and evolve my sessions until they take their final form. My whiteboard is where my thoughts materialize, where the chaos of my mind transforms into an organized, tangible swimming session.

Some call it coaching, I call it art.

Session Roulette:

With many of you having kindly checked out the new Swim Smooth GURU in the recent weeks, you'll know that there are well in excess of over 1,000 swimming sessions, all nicely categorised into various types of sessions, lovingly crafted to deliver a certain training result or physiological effect.

And they've all been delivered - in the real-world, NOT by AI - right here in sunny Perth with our Squad.

But sometimes, having so much choice can also pose the risk of procrastination. And we don't want that.

So, we've created a solution. You can have a bit of fun selecting your daily swim session at random using a new feature called the “Session Roulette” - we think you'll love it!

Creating You a “Masterpiece”:

I never get bored of creating these sessions. Standing there in front of my blank canvas knowing I have to create my next “Masterpiece” for my swimmers to enjoy is what has kept me motivated every morning at 5.30am for nearly 20 years now.

My goal every Wednesday in particular for our Red Mist Endurance session, is to try to never repeat a session. Some are similar of course, but if I were to write up 10 x 400 (the Classic Red Mist Session) every Wednesday - despite how good it is - I wouldn't have a Squad left to attend to!

Just like art, not everyone likes every session. Sometimes, people love sessions which I think they will hate, or find tedious (or both!). However, always being in pursuit of a majority “crowd pleaser” that delivers both a great, effective workout - and that is fun - is my Holy Panacea.

So, here's my offering to you this week - a set of (up to) 50 x 100 cleverly disguising the fact that this session is every inch an endurance session - the devil being in the detail of the target paces and send-off times:

To properly understand the nuances of this session and to help you calculate your times etc, please head over to our Instagram post where you can also join in the comments and let us know how you got on? We'd love a like and a follow on there if you'd be so kind too…will you be our 8,000th follower?

The Virtual Squad Returns:

With the imminent re-launch of the GURU, we'll also be featuring up to 3 sessions per week “live from Perth” as part of our Virtual Squad, meaning you can follow along with exactly which sessions we're doing over here, and (eventually), with our other fabulous Swim Smooth Coaches around the world too.
