Paul represented Great Britain for many years as part of the British Elite triathlon team, he’s swum the English Channel, won the most prestigious marathon swimming event in the world (a circumnavigation of New York City – 46km or 28.5 miles), and recently broke 5 hours for the 20km Rottnest Channel Swim after 14 years of trying at the ripe old age of 44!
Paul's journey began as a former member of the British World Class Triathlon Program, where he honed his skills as an elite athlete. He earned his B.Sc. (Hons) in Sport & Exercise Science from the University of Bath from 1997 to 2001, laying a strong academic foundation for his future endeavors. During his time at university, Paul worked as a Talent ID Officer for British Triathlon from 2000 to 2001, where he played a pivotal role in identifying emerging triathlon talent across the UK.
Since relocating to Perth, Western Australia, in 2002, Paul has continued to make significant contributions to the swimming and triathlon communities. In 2011, he successfully swam the English Channel, demonstrating his endurance and passion for open water swimming. Two years later, he achieved victory in the prestigious Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in 2013, further cementing his reputation as an accomplished open water swimmer.
Paul has been instrumental in developing coaching education curricula for the British Triathlon since 2010 and the World Triathlon since 2014. His innovative approach and commitment to excellence have made Swim Smooth a trusted name in the swimming world, with its methods disseminated in 119 countries.

With a passion for helping swimmers and triathletes improve their efficiency and enjoyment in the water, Paul has dedicated his career to advancing swim coaching methodologies and developing a nurturing, supportive environment for athletes of all levels.
